Aarti is sung at the end of a puja ceremony. It is performed in temples and homes during both morning and evening worship. A lamp or camphor flame is waved before the deity during the aarti.
Why is a lamp lit during aarti? +
The lamp symbolizes the dispelling of darkness (ignorance) and the spreading of light (knowledge). Waving a ghee or oil lamp before the deity purifies the surroundings and removes negative energy.
